Busy Week...then Snow!

It's been a busy week at our house. Brandon got home from K-State on Thursday. Due to the ice storm, his Architectural History final was rescheduled to Saturday, and then cancelled altogether. His last final was Wednesday night at 7. The bad news is that Leeker's apparently is over-staffed and it doesn't look like he will get to work over the holiday. It's rather upsetting because the owner told him when he left for school to let them know a month before Christmas if he wanted to work for the month he was home. He let them know, and now they aren't honoring their promise. It's doubly upsetting because he could have worked at one of the Dillons here - but he needed to get paperwork from his Dillons allowing for the month transfer. It's too late to do that now. Corby is going to see if they have any parts delivering or anything he could do even 20 hours a week at Foley. I thought about seeing if he could work in the mailroom at the Eagle for a month - but the bad thing is they work the night shift, and he really doesn't want to work late nights. As a momma, I'm not keen on him being out all night either! I don't care if he IS 18! HA! Anyway - if any of you blog readers know of anything he can do for about a month to earn money, let me know! He's a hard worker!

Kaitlin had her Christmas music program at Heights Thursday night. It was very good, and they did the traditional "Twas the Night Before Christmas" as the finale. They always invite Heights music alumni up on stage to participate in this song, and it's very entertaining. I didn't take any pictures since I can never get close enough to the stage to get good ones.

Last night Corby and I went with mom to her Christmas Party at Presbyterian Manor. They have a very nice, elegant dinner for each separate wing. They had roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, a weird cottage cheese salad (with green onions, tomatoes and pimentos) and cherry pie. Oh yeah, they also had non-alcoholic (bummer!) sparkling cider. Mom was all dressed up in a beautiful red blouse with gold trim. The entertainment was a 5-year-old girl who had won some sort of pageant. She was very cute, and sang a karoake Christmas song. I got a bad vibe from the little girl's grandma though - well I think she was the grandma. She was one of those stage moms (grandmas?) who stood there and told the little girl every little thing to do...."hold the mike with one hand", "put your other hand out", "turn your head this way", "look out at the people over there". And Grandma had a little too much botox I think! I think if the kids want to do the pageants it's okay, but when it looks a bit forced, it's too much. I always wondered how much JonBenet Ramsey really enjoyed doing all those pageants. All in all, it was a nice evening. We managed to get home before the roads got too bad.

And then of course this morning we woke up to a bit of snow. I think Park City got more than the 2 or 3 inches they are saying Wichita got. I would estimate our total (so far) at 4-5 inches. Cinnamon spent the night in our bedroom - this big husky/chow has become a "weeny" when it comes to bad weather. She used to LOVE the snow. Well, actually today she has been outside most of the day...
And then Kaitlin put Muffin out on the picnic table to check out the snow...
Today's music - Michael W. Smith's new Christmas CD - It's a Wonderful Christmas. With all this snow....it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

And the quote of the day: "Look deep, deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." -- Albert Einstein

Cinnamon looks pretty content, but I think Muffin is looking for a warm spot. :)
That cottage cheese salad sounds yummy!! Well, except for the pimento's. Watermark puts green onions and tomatoes in their cottage cheese - SO GOOD!!

Yeah, the tomatoes and green onions were okay, but the pimentos made it too funky!

K-STATE WINS!

K-STATE beat KU! AWESOME! It was a tense game. Corby is a huge KU fan, and even having a son at K-State hasn't changed that. I am happy when any Kansas team does well; but I had to root for K-State tonight. If the Jayhawks had to lose, I'm glad it was to K-State. Michael Beasley is a great player, and my only concern is that he will leave after his freshman year and go pro. WAY TO GO CATS!

Fun times with Lenore

While Lenore and Daniel were here, she had a library book panel at the Johnson County Library in Overland Park. So, on Tuesday afternoon, November 27th, Lenore, her friend Rachelle and I took off for KC. We had a great time visiting on the way up and back, and I didn't get tired at all driving! We stopped for a quick bite to eat at Arby's and filled up with gas at QT before heading to the library. It was an interesting panel featuring Bethany Hagen, author of Landry Park, which comes out next year; Gennifer Albin, author of Crewel, which was released a few months ago; and Lenore, whose book will be released on January 15. Here's the panel: Me & Lenore: Lenore & Rachelle: Gennifer, Bethany and Lenore
