Another Day

It's getting a little more difficult trying to decide what to blog about. Since Facebook is all the rage, and very addictive, I still want to keep up with the blog so that family and friends can see how busy or boring our lives are on any given day. Some recent picture for my scrapbooking project: Here's my scrapbooking area - quite a mess, isn't it? As you can see I have a couple of Stampin' Up stamp sets that need "put together". We went to Famous Dave's in Manhattan last Friday before heading home. For some reason, we never go to the one in Wichita, but we've been to the one in Manhattan 3 or 4 times. Probably because there aren't a lot of choices of restaurants up there... When Brandon was home last weekend, his friend and former roommate Brady came over to play video games. It was quite funny, because Kaitlin got in on the action. She rarely plays, but wanted in on the action since they were playing each other online. Brandon and Kaitlin were

Questions

I found this on someone else's blog and thought they were questions worth answering... 1. Tell me what you believe to be the greatest invention so far in your lifetime. Has to be the computer 2. Tell me what scared you when you were little. The thought of my mom or my dad not being with me. 3. Tell me the best way to spend Sundays Just hanging out with my family 4. Tell me about someone you always had fun with. Had and have fun with - my best friend Melody 5. Tell me the wish you have for your children That they find happiness. 6. Tell me about something you broke. This is something hilarious from my childhood. To set up this story you need to know that I had been to the doctor and gotten shots. Now - we had an inflatable DINO - the Sinclair gas mascot. On this day that I had gotten shots, I took a pencil and gave DINO a shot. Needless to say, he deflated. I thought I killed him! I was so darn upset! I think I was about 5 years old... 7. Tell me a vivid memory you have of a s

Manhattan - Here They Come!

We had a great trip to Manhattan yesterday. Brandon got out of class early, so we met at Varney's Bookstore and picked up a few things. Then the rest of the afternoon we spent driving around looking at the outside of houses and looked at one 4 bdrm. apartment. The apartment was pretty small, and the kitchen was almost non-existent. I had found one house in the Manhattan paper (online) so we drove by it and called the owner. After several phone calls back and forth (she had to call the current renters) we were allowed to look at the inside of the house. It has 4 bedrooms (the 4th was made out of the garage), 2 baths, a nice sized living room and a nice sized kitchen. It even has a small patio in the backyard, and the owners provide a mower for the yard. We went ahead and signed a lease and paid the deposit (one month's rent) and the lease starts August 1. I had no idea you had to find a place so early in the year for the fall semester! Originally our trip was for engineering day

Day 2 & 3 of vacation

I'm really enjoying my vacation. Yesterday was a busy day. Kaitlin and I went over to see my sister Rhonda. She's taking a few days vacation this week too. I managed to get a couple of pictures of her cats. Allie was very cooperative: but it took me awhile to get a good picture of Rascal. She just wasn't in the mood to have her picture taken. I also met my best friend Melody at Abuelo's for dinner. Well, we never really ate dinner - just had some margaritas, chips, salsa, queso and guacamole, and a wonderful 2 hour visit! My camera batteries died while I was at Rhonda's, so I don't have any pictures of my evening to post. Today I spent all morning working on our taxes. I got ours and the twins done. Will have to do Brandon's later, as I won't get his paperwork until we see him this weekend. We are headed to Manhattan on Friday for a school visit for Kaleb, and then we're going to look around for a house, apartment, duplex, mobile home, etc. for the k

Mom is Set!

The thought of conversion to digital TV has been traumatic for mom. She has a routine, and whenever her routine is upset, she tends to freak out. Well, the transition to digital TV has been worrying her for months now. Her TV just had rabbit ears, so I bought the digital converter box and we tried to hook it up for her on Saturday. However, hooking it up meant she was going to have to use the remote control that came with the box. With her poor vision, I had bought her a really big remote at Envision a couple of years ago. She knew she wouldn't be able to handle a smaller remote. So, this morning I called cable, and lo and behold, they were able to come out this afternoon and get her set up! Kaleb, Kaitlin and I went to Sam's to pick up some necessities, ate lunch at Chili's (a special treat since they were out of school and I was on vacation) and then we went to mom's to wait for the cable guy to get there. We had a wonderful two hour + visit, and I took some pics: Onc

Happy Valentine's Day

Kaitlin brought Valentine balloons home for all of us last night. Abby and Muffin have been having a lot of fun dragging them around the house, even though there is a weight on the bottom. It's been a long week, probably made longer by the fact I was anxious for Friday since I'm on vacation next week! YIPPEE! I'm still working on Project 365 - documenting a picture a day in 2009. Here are some recent pics: Cinnamon with a giant rawhide bone... Books I just received from my book club - from some of my favorite authors: Kaitlin's truck: She was hit in her school parking lot just over a week ago. Some guy was backing out of his space and backed right into her. Not a lot of damage - just the cover over her blinker and her bumper. Still waiting on his insurance company to return our call. Current music: Daughtry. Hadn't listened to his CD in a long time, and it's really good! Current book: Virgin River by Robyn Carr And a quote to end this post: "Character is th

GOT 'EM

Yep! I got floor seats to the July 10 Keith Urban concert! I'm broke now - since all 5 of us are going. BUT IT WILL BE WORTH IT!

The Grammy's

I like music - let me say I REALLY LIKE MUSIC! However, I just don't get into the Grammy's. They usually don't have many performers that I care about. So far tonight, I've seen U2 - never really cared for them; Coldplay - they were pretty good; Carrie Underwood - great voice, no stage presence and TERRIBLE outfit tonight; and Al Green - one of the greats. I just saw that Chris Brown and Rihanna are not there tonight after reports of a domestic disturbance between the two late last night. Keith Urban has already been on - he played guitar during Al Green's set and introduced Carrie Underwood. Hope they have the Neil Diamond special award soon. That's the only thing left I want to see. Might have to turn it before then...

January Books Read

I read 9 books in January: 1) Lethal Justice - Fern Michaels 2) Deep Dish - Mary Kay Andrews 3) The Lucky One - Nicholas Sparks 4) The Future Scrolls - Fern Michaels 5) Marley & Me - John Grogan 6) Nights in Rodanthe - Nicholas Sparks 7) Sundays at Tiffany's - James Patterson 8) The Delta Ladies - Fern Michaels 9) Deeper Water - Robert Whitlow Can you tell I was on a Fern Michaels and Nicholas Sparks kick? They are two of my favorite authors. So far in February I've read 3 books: 1) Shelter Me - Juliette Fay 2) Midnight Sons, Vol. 1 - Debbie Macomber 3) Show No Fear - Perri O'Shaughnessy (in process) I just got John Grisham's newest book - The Associate, so I'll probably be reading it sometime this month too. It's been added to my "to be read" pile!

The Crud

Well, I guess it was meant to be. Everyone else in the family has had the "crud" - now it's my turn. It started with Kaitlin's walking pneumonia, progressed to Kaleb's missing a day of school last week with a bad cold, cough and chest congestion; then on to Corby who's had mostly a cough; to me - with all of it! It's weird though. My colds usually start with a sore throat. This just started with a nasty cough. I don't know which is worse, a nose that won't stop running, or being so stopped up your head feels like it's falling off. I'm kind of in the middle right now...popping the Cold-Eze lozenges, drinking some Vitamin C and I plan to get some rest tonight! We didn't do anything for Super Bowl...we used to have a Super Bowl party every year, but the last few years I just don't get into it. I don't usually care about who's playing and the commercials aren't that great. Corby grilled some burgers and brats, and we just hu
