We Survived!

Had a great Christmas, but am glad the hustle and bustle is over. We had a quiet Christmas Eve. The twins both had to work 10-7, so they got home around 7:40. Leeker's was giving out poinsettias for free as they closed, so Kaitlin grabbed one for me.
We had junk food night. Made queso, a cheese ball, spiced pecans (yummy, coated w/cinnamon, sugar, egg whites, etc.

meatballs in bbq sauce, etc. I enjoyed several margaritas while Corby was drinking rum and coke. The kids exchanged their gifts, and then we all settled in to watch CHRISTMAS VACATION. It's one of our favorite funny Christmas movies!

Yesterday was a fun-filled family day. We opened gifts before pigging out on Corby's wonderful meal of ham, hash brown casserole, sweet potato casserole, brussel sprouts, broccoli, rolls, and of course pumpkin and pecan pies.

Mom enjoyed the Garth Brooks t-shirt we bought her at the concert in November.

Brandon loved his K-State hoodie. It's a little big, so we're hoping it shrinks a bit when I wash it.

Kaleb and Kaitlin showing off their goodies:
Here's Corby being really silly - has a roll-up sticking out of his mouth. Thought I might blow this up so the kids could use it for dart target practice! Here's the kids with my best friend Melody's daughter, Diane. Diane is almost a year older than Brandon, and they've all grown up together. It was good having Melody and Diane with us for Christmas dinner. They are considered part of our family!Me and Melody:
We had almost all of our family together, except for my niece and one of my nephews. My niece, Lenore and her husband, Daniel, celebrated the holidays with Daniel's family in Germany. She called while we were all together, so at least we got to visit with her. Sure did miss her though, as she's done her best to make it to the states for Christmas almost every year. Now that she and Daniel are married, we have to share her! She mentioned Daniel's family may come to the states next year for the holidays. That would be a lot of fun. A lot of them came in May of '06 when they got married here. It would be good to see them again! My nephew and his family live in California and were unable to come, and we missed them too.

The kids got a lot of CD's for Christmas, and I've put most of them on my Ipod. From Kaitlin and Kaleb's country - like Taylor Swift and Brad Paisley, to Brandon's Metallica and Guns and Roses; I've added quite a variety of music. My nephew, Nick, had my name for Christmas, and along with an awesome K-State fleece pullover (THANK YOU NICK!) he gave me a CD of Tori Amos' music. Nick and Lenore have been fans of Tori's for years, and they just went to a concert in Lawrence last month when Lenore was here. Lenore had her song "Winter" played as her father/daughter dance at her wedding last year, and that was the only song of Tori's that I had heard. I've listened to most of the CD and am really enjoying it. Guess you could say my music tastes are quite varied!

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas, and is ready to ring in the New Year next week!

Fun times with Lenore

While Lenore and Daniel were here, she had a library book panel at the Johnson County Library in Overland Park. So, on Tuesday afternoon, November 27th, Lenore, her friend Rachelle and I took off for KC. We had a great time visiting on the way up and back, and I didn't get tired at all driving! We stopped for a quick bite to eat at Arby's and filled up with gas at QT before heading to the library. It was an interesting panel featuring Bethany Hagen, author of Landry Park, which comes out next year; Gennifer Albin, author of Crewel, which was released a few months ago; and Lenore, whose book will be released on January 15. Here's the panel: Me & Lenore: Lenore & Rachelle: Gennifer, Bethany and Lenore

K-STATE WINS!

K-STATE beat KU! AWESOME! It was a tense game. Corby is a huge KU fan, and even having a son at K-State hasn't changed that. I am happy when any Kansas team does well; but I had to root for K-State tonight. If the Jayhawks had to lose, I'm glad it was to K-State. Michael Beasley is a great player, and my only concern is that he will leave after his freshman year and go pro. WAY TO GO CATS!
