CAT FANCY

While going through drawers of mementos (and CRAP!) this afternoon I found this Cat Fancy magazine. Now I know it is dated March 2005. Why, you ask, are you keeping an old Cat Fancy magazine around? Well, because I'm a proud mama, of course. Kaitlin had a poem published in this issue, a poem she wrote when she was 12.

There is a funny story behind this...I loved the poem "THE VET" she wrote after taking our cat in for her shots. At the time, she subscribed to Cat Fancy. I sent her poem in, and nothing happened. I'm sure they get hundreds, if not thousands of poems submitted every month. Her subscription ran out about a year later, and we opted not to renew it. About 9 months later, we received a magazine in the mail. We had no idea why, it just showed up. I thought maybe they were trying to lure her to subscribe again. The magazine sat around the house for a few days. Finally she had time to look at it. A short while later, I heard her scream, and this is what she found:Now, you probably can't read the poem from the picture, so I print it here very proudly:

THE VET
By Kaitlin J., 12
Wichita, Kan.

What's that I hear? I'm going to the vet?
What am I going to do? I can't die yet!
I'm way too young. I feel just fine.
Please don't let the man touch that fur of mine.
Oh, please don't take me. I'll do anything you like.
I'll even wax up your brand new bike.
I'll be really good and try not to bite.
I'll even stay off your bed at night.
Though it may be hard, I can be be really nice.
I'll even catch all those pesky little mice.
Whatever you do, just don't take me there.
I really don't like when they mess with my hair.
The vet has sharp needles they stick in my skin.
Then they grab my ear and start looking in.
They put me on a scale to see what I weigh.
When I go to the vet, it's a horrible day.
Wait, what is that thing you took out of the garage?
I hope I'm seeing a big mirage.
It looks like a cage with holes in the side.
Don't try to put me in it, or I'll run and hide.
Wait, don't come any closer to me.
Or I'll Scratch you with my sharp claws, you see.
That cage looks too small, please don't make me go.
I'll fuss and meow...
Wait...Don't...NOOOOOOO!!!!

I remember right after it was published you brought it to work and I read it then. Still proud of her and rightly so!

What's Good

Here's what's good right now: 1. Corby's OKAY after an accident at work today! He was on the forklift pulling onto a truck when the truck driver pulled away from the dock apparently to reallign himself (WHAT AN IDIOT DRIVER!!!) and he fell off the dock. Thank goodness there is a roll-bar on those forklifts. He has a headache and will probably be stiff tomorrow, but says he is okay. They sent him for a drug test. It's their policy if someone has an accident at work. 2. Feeling much better. I'm about 75% well now. Still have a cough and some sinus issues, but I think I'll survive. 3. Spending today with Kaleb & Kaitlin. 4. Having such good kids. Leeker's just called Kaitlin to see if she'd work longer hours today. They have a lot of employees out sick. She was supposed to work 4-8, but volunteered to work 2-9. Here's a pat on the back hon! 5. Enjoying some Josh Groban music. 6. Cleaning out my file cabinet and getting ready for 2008. I know, I...
