Just another errand-running Saturday!

Typical Saturday for our household. Kaleb had Saturday Academy, so he didn't get home from class until 10:30. Leeker's called him in to work early due to employees being ill. Corby had to work, so Kaitlin and I were off and running. We hit the Dollar Store first to pick up a couple of things that mom needed. After a stop at QT for hot chocolate, we headed to mom's. She showed us the remodeling they had done to her room, and then we took her to visit Rhonda. She's doing good in her physical therapy and there is a chance she will be released in the next few days. Since mom missed lunch at Presbyterian Manor, we took her to Long John Silver's - one of her favorite places. She got a piece of fish and 2 hushpuppies - her usual. After Kaitlin and I took her home, we stopped at the library to pick up a book I had on hold (Book of the Dead by Patricia Cornwall) and then did our grocery shopping at Leeker's. Corby got home before we did - and helped the neighbor finish the fence. Thank goodness Sadie can now stay in her own yard. She is a sweet dog that just needs attention, but Cinnamon was pretty darn jealous because she was invading HER territory!

I got to see the end of the K-State game - they won - yippee! Corby watched KU of course, and they won too. Ought to be a wild ride the next few weeks in college basketball!

When I talked to the manager from Leeker's who called Kaleb this morning, he expressed interest in Brandon working over spring break because they are short-handed. I told him Brandon would be home next weekend, and I was sure he'd love to work. He's going to talk to the owner and see if they can use him. I talked to Brandon a little while ago and he was actually quite excited to get a chance to work! I'm hoping they are able to do it. He really wanted to stay in Manhattan and work 40 hours at Dillons, but they kick them out of the dorm! He was planning on talking to the owner of Leeker's during spring break anyway - to see if he could work over the summer. He wants a guarantee they will let him work or he will transfer to work with Dillons. It would just be nice if he could work at Leeker's because it's close to home and he could save on gas. The closest Dillons to us is at 37th and Woodlawn.

The new Walmart at 53rd & Meridian is open...ugh! NO - WE DID NOT GO THERE TODAY! As much as I hate Walmart, I'm sure we will do some shopping there, and at least it's fairly close. However, I refuse to grocery shop there. I will continue to support Leeker's - our small family-owned store. I just hate that Walmart runs family-owned stores out of business. Kaitlin said today - "you know mom, if Walmart sold appliances and cars, they would pretty much rule the country". I think that's pretty darn sad.

I also think it's pretty darn sad that our own government did not choose Boeing to build their new tankers. They chose a foreign airplane maker over Boeing? WTF! How can your own government "outsource" and give foreign countries OUR JOBS? It's no wonder businesses around the country are doing this, including my place of employment. Because we've outsourced our customer service department to somewhere south of the US (I can't remember exactly where), folks around the building are taking customer service calls from upset customers. Don't get me wrong - I want happy customers - so I'm glad to talk to them and try to help them; but what are we saving by doing this? GIANT UGH!

I've got a lot of reading to do. Picked up the Patricia Cornwell book I mentioned earlier, as well as 2 other books from the library. I also got 2 books in the mail today from one of my book clubs: "Betrayal" by John Lescroart and "The First Patient" by Michael Palmer. I love both of these authors, so I'm anxious to get reading!

Still listening to Keith Urban. In fact, Kaitlin actually let me listen to Keith while we were doing our running today. She drove her truck, so I was pretty surprised since her CD player usually only plays Rascal Flatts!

And the quote for Saturday is: "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened." -- Unknown

I am with you on the Walmart and outsourcing. I just don't get it. No one has a loyalty factor anymore. Service will definitely be compromised...ugh.

keep up the good work supporting leeker's. my dad was a little concerned i think when gander mountain came, but... it's been alright. customers enjoy the feeling of appreciation at the "little man" businesses. in fact... i think i shall post a blog about that later.

VACATION

On vacation for a few days (return to work on Thursday)...here's where I wish I was... I plan on enjoying some peace and quiet...and possibly, if I get motivated, getting some cleaning and organizing done in the office area of the basement. We'll see if that motivation arrives (it's not here yet)... Good news for Park City residents...recycling came to town the first of January. We are charged $4.00 month (added onto our already high water bill); but it has lowered the price of our trash pickup. The company P.C. contracted with has a much lower price than the company we use. Our company matched the price, so our trash bills went down (considerably) AND we get to recycle. We can recycle almost all our plastics, newspapers, cardboard, aluminum cans, cereal boxes, glass, motor oil, etc. We've got two big bags to set out tomorrow. Just doin' our part for the environment. We are without hot water right now...our hot water heater needs a new thermo-couple? It's a fair

Fun times with Lenore

While Lenore and Daniel were here, she had a library book panel at the Johnson County Library in Overland Park. So, on Tuesday afternoon, November 27th, Lenore, her friend Rachelle and I took off for KC. We had a great time visiting on the way up and back, and I didn't get tired at all driving! We stopped for a quick bite to eat at Arby's and filled up with gas at QT before heading to the library. It was an interesting panel featuring Bethany Hagen, author of Landry Park, which comes out next year; Gennifer Albin, author of Crewel, which was released a few months ago; and Lenore, whose book will be released on January 15. Here's the panel: Me & Lenore: Lenore & Rachelle: Gennifer, Bethany and Lenore
