Styx / Kansas

Most of you know about my obsession with Styx. I saw them numerous times back in the late 70's and 80's. I saw their "reunion" show in 1996 at the Coliseum - in 5th row seats, no less! Of course, that was before the blow-up between Dennis DeYoung and the rest of the band. We saw Styx at the fair a couple years later, when Dennis was no longer part of the band. I remember hearing on the way to the fair that Dennis wouldn't be there, and I was SO disappointed. However, they still sounded great! Granted, there are Styx songs they can no longer perform without Dennis; but there are still a lot of great songs they can perform (Come Sail Away remains one of my favorite songs of all time!) Tommy Shaw and JY can still rock! So needless to say, I was excited to hear that they will be performing at this year's Kansas State Fair on opening night. And then I heard this week that Kansas will be opening for them. I have no idea if Steve Walsh is still the lead singer (I don't think he is) but I've seen my share of great Kansas shows over the years too! Opening night at the fair is shaping up to be a killer concert! P-A-R-T-Y!

I just realized tonight that I hadn't posted since Sunday. I don't usually go so long between posts. Guess I haven't had much to say! Go figure!

Corby and I are just hanging out tonight - having a few margaritas and waiting for the KU game to begin. I'll probably be reading or playing games on the computer during the game - as I don't have to watch every little minute like he does. If he starts yelling at the TV, I'll put my Ipod on. Kaleb is gone to a movie with a friend, and Kaitlin is headed home soon from work. Oh yeah, I'm also very proud of myself this week. I rarely do any laundry during the week - I'm either too exhausted to care, or we're gone too much. That means I end up doing about 12 loads of laundry on the weekend - in between errand-running, etc. This week I have made a concerted effort to do a load or two every night, so hopefully this weekend I should only have 3 or 4 loads to do. Maybe that means Corby and I can go do something fun. Probably not though. You know the NCAA tournament is going on, and he can't miss that basketball. Oh well, maybe I'll go do something fun by myself or with some friends. Or - better yet - maybe I'll go shopping! We just got our income tax back!

Toodles!

VACATION

On vacation for a few days (return to work on Thursday)...here's where I wish I was... I plan on enjoying some peace and quiet...and possibly, if I get motivated, getting some cleaning and organizing done in the office area of the basement. We'll see if that motivation arrives (it's not here yet)... Good news for Park City residents...recycling came to town the first of January. We are charged $4.00 month (added onto our already high water bill); but it has lowered the price of our trash pickup. The company P.C. contracted with has a much lower price than the company we use. Our company matched the price, so our trash bills went down (considerably) AND we get to recycle. We can recycle almost all our plastics, newspapers, cardboard, aluminum cans, cereal boxes, glass, motor oil, etc. We've got two big bags to set out tomorrow. Just doin' our part for the environment. We are without hot water right now...our hot water heater needs a new thermo-couple? It's a fair

Fun times with Lenore

While Lenore and Daniel were here, she had a library book panel at the Johnson County Library in Overland Park. So, on Tuesday afternoon, November 27th, Lenore, her friend Rachelle and I took off for KC. We had a great time visiting on the way up and back, and I didn't get tired at all driving! We stopped for a quick bite to eat at Arby's and filled up with gas at QT before heading to the library. It was an interesting panel featuring Bethany Hagen, author of Landry Park, which comes out next year; Gennifer Albin, author of Crewel, which was released a few months ago; and Lenore, whose book will be released on January 15. Here's the panel: Me & Lenore: Lenore & Rachelle: Gennifer, Bethany and Lenore
