Blogger Ennui

Father, my last blog was a few days ago. I resolve to post more often in the future. (Can you tell I was raised Catholic?)

I guess nothing monumental has been going on. Work has been very crazy. KU's win was a GREAT thing for the state of Kansas, but as I've lamented in the past, it's a pain to deal with something that big when you're in the newspaper business. Our sports folks have been doing a great job, and we will be having a special commemorative KU section in this Sunday's paper. Along with that, we've been selling T-shirts and posters since Tuesday at noon. Needless to say, it's been a madhouse! I heard tonight that Bill Self has agreed to a long-term KU contract. YIPPEE!

I'm taking a much-needed day of vacation tomorrow. I plan on sleeping in a bit, but other than that I want to RELAX! Corby and I have reservations for SUMO tomorrow night. He's never been there, and I was so impressed when I went there about a month ago that I definitely wanted to go back. Since tomorrow is payday - we're gonna spend some of that hard-earned money!
I am currently reading Dead Time by Stephen White. He's one of my favorite authors. I'm about a third of the way through, and it looks like another winner!

Current music? Some CD's I just picked up: The Very Best of Jackson Browne, The Very Best of Crowded House, One Republic (new & great!), Don Henley-Building the Perfect Beast, Crosby Stills Nash & Young-Looking Forward, Grand Funk Railroad's Greatest Hits, and America-The Definitive Pop Collection. I love it when my record club has a great sale!

And a quote since it's been awhile:
"It's a special bond that spans the years
through laughter, worry, smiles and tears,
a sense of trust that can't be broken,
a depth of love sometimes unspoken,
a lifelong friendship built on sharing,
hugs and kisses, warmth and caring,
parent and child, their hears as one -
a link that can never be undone."

Fun times with Lenore

While Lenore and Daniel were here, she had a library book panel at the Johnson County Library in Overland Park. So, on Tuesday afternoon, November 27th, Lenore, her friend Rachelle and I took off for KC. We had a great time visiting on the way up and back, and I didn't get tired at all driving! We stopped for a quick bite to eat at Arby's and filled up with gas at QT before heading to the library. It was an interesting panel featuring Bethany Hagen, author of Landry Park, which comes out next year; Gennifer Albin, author of Crewel, which was released a few months ago; and Lenore, whose book will be released on January 15. Here's the panel: Me & Lenore: Lenore & Rachelle: Gennifer, Bethany and Lenore

VACATION

On vacation for a few days (return to work on Thursday)...here's where I wish I was... I plan on enjoying some peace and quiet...and possibly, if I get motivated, getting some cleaning and organizing done in the office area of the basement. We'll see if that motivation arrives (it's not here yet)... Good news for Park City residents...recycling came to town the first of January. We are charged $4.00 month (added onto our already high water bill); but it has lowered the price of our trash pickup. The company P.C. contracted with has a much lower price than the company we use. Our company matched the price, so our trash bills went down (considerably) AND we get to recycle. We can recycle almost all our plastics, newspapers, cardboard, aluminum cans, cereal boxes, glass, motor oil, etc. We've got two big bags to set out tomorrow. Just doin' our part for the environment. We are without hot water right now...our hot water heater needs a new thermo-couple? It's a fair
