Semi-Lazy Day - UPDATED MON. 10/6

UPDATED MON. 10/6...
My niece Lenore just corrected me. My nephew Nick was also born in Minot, not Colorado Springs. My youngest nephew, Eric, was born in Colorado Springs. Thanks, Lenore!

We've had a semi-lazy day today (I'm still working on laundry, but that's a normal weekend chore). It seems like we've been running for so long that we needed a bit more relaxing day. We did meet up with my family at Town & Country this afternoon to celebrate a couple of birthdays - belatedly. My nephew Nick turned 32 at the end of August, and my younger sister turned 47 (YES, 47!!!!, sorry Marilyn!) on Sept. 8. My older brother and his wife were gone for a couple of weeks to Germany, so this is the first time we've all been able to get together.

Here is my nephew - in his new Broncos hat that we gave him - and my mom.
Nick is the outsider in our family when it comes to football. The rest of us are Chiefs fans, but Nick is a huge Bronco fan. I think it has something to do with the fact that he was born in Colorado Springs!

And here is Marilyn, the birthday girl, with my older sister Rhonda. Here are the world travelers, Terry and Sandy. This trip to Germany and France was to celebrate their 10th anniversary, which is in December.Terry was in the Air Force for 20 years. He lived in Minot, N.D., and he married his late wife, Barbara. while living there. Lenore, their oldest, was born in Minot. Their two sons, Nick and Eric (who lives in California with his wife Heather and daughter Izzy) were born in their next stop - Colorado Springs. After Colorado, they spent several years in Athens, Greece. Mom and I visited them in May of 1981. Let's see if I can remember the rest of their Air Force travels. I believe their next stop was Sunset, Utah, just outside of Salt Lake City. From there they lived in Sacramento, California, and then he ended his career in Dayton, Ohio. I visited all of their homes except for Ohio, since that was around the time I got married and started having kids. In late 1992 (I believe) they moved back to Wichita when his Air Force days were over. Unfortunately, Barbara passed away in 1994, the same year we lost my dad and a special aunt. He met Sandy in '97 (?) and they got married in 1998. Sandy has two children, Michael, who is married to Stacey. They live in Wisconsin, and are expecting their second child, a brother or sister for Isaac. Sandy's daughter, Michelle, lives here in Wichita. Anyway, Terry loves to travel and I think it stems back from his Air Force days. My niece, Lenore, has his wandering spirit too!

Corby and I were "kidless" today since the twins both had to work.
I didn't get a picture of my younger brother and his wife Diana because she was away from the group when I was taking pictures. That'll teach you Diana!

Here are the latest cat pictures:

Abby and Muffin still like to wrestle...Abby sleeps in the oddest configurations.
Corby has been depressed all weekend. The Cubs, who were playing in the postseason, lost their first 2 games at home. They played in L.A. last night, and lost the series. So - no Cubs in the World Series this year. Their usual fate...Oh well, once he gets over this, I won't have to listen to the complaining for the rest of the baseball playoffs. A bonus for me!

Comments

I'm afraid I have to correct you - Nick was also born in Minot!

VACATION

On vacation for a few days (return to work on Thursday)...here's where I wish I was... I plan on enjoying some peace and quiet...and possibly, if I get motivated, getting some cleaning and organizing done in the office area of the basement. We'll see if that motivation arrives (it's not here yet)... Good news for Park City residents...recycling came to town the first of January. We are charged $4.00 month (added onto our already high water bill); but it has lowered the price of our trash pickup. The company P.C. contracted with has a much lower price than the company we use. Our company matched the price, so our trash bills went down (considerably) AND we get to recycle. We can recycle almost all our plastics, newspapers, cardboard, aluminum cans, cereal boxes, glass, motor oil, etc. We've got two big bags to set out tomorrow. Just doin' our part for the environment. We are without hot water right now...our hot water heater needs a new thermo-couple? It's a fair

Fun times with Lenore

While Lenore and Daniel were here, she had a library book panel at the Johnson County Library in Overland Park. So, on Tuesday afternoon, November 27th, Lenore, her friend Rachelle and I took off for KC. We had a great time visiting on the way up and back, and I didn't get tired at all driving! We stopped for a quick bite to eat at Arby's and filled up with gas at QT before heading to the library. It was an interesting panel featuring Bethany Hagen, author of Landry Park, which comes out next year; Gennifer Albin, author of Crewel, which was released a few months ago; and Lenore, whose book will be released on January 15. Here's the panel: Me & Lenore: Lenore & Rachelle: Gennifer, Bethany and Lenore
