Mostly Done

I am mostly done with my Christmas shopping!!! What an achievement! And it's still 11 days until Christmas! Today was spent visiting mom, hitting Walmart and Target, and grocery shopping. Now I'm broke until next payday - HA!

Last night, Corby and I went to the Artichoke with some friends. Their son's band was playing their first real "gig". They are called Union Break, and they are very good. Sam, their son, is the oldest. He is the bass player and turns 16 this weekend. The lead singer and acoustic and electric guitar player will turn 16 next spring, and the drummer just turned 15. For young kids, they were really good. It was an enjoyable evening, albeit in a tiny, tiny place! (For those of you who have been to the Artichoke, you know what I'm talking about).

My niece is headed home from Germany for Christmas. She is landing in San Francisco today to spend a few days with her brother and his family, and she'll be in Wichita on Wednesday. Her husband Daniel is staying home in Germany, still working on the illustrations for two children's books. We will miss having him here. Haven't seen him since their wedding 2 and a half years ago (am I right on the years Lenore?) Looking forward to seeing you soon! Tell Eric, Heather and Izzy HELLO!

Looks like more bad weather is headed this way. I hope people drive more safely than they did last Tuesday! And Praise God!!! My other niece, Michelle, was involved in a rollover accident near I-135 and 85th St. N. in Park City on Tuesday. Fortunately she was wearing her seat belt and wasn't seriously hurt - though she's pretty banged up. But get this - while sitting in the police car (probably filling out paperwork) the police car was rear ended by another vehicle. Again, no one was seriously hurt. Then, when she was headed to immediate care after those two accidents, someone rear-ended them at a stop sign! 3 accidents in 3 hours. Michelle, we're so happy you are okay. I can only imagine how scary that morning was!

Well, Kaitlin has already watched The Dark Knight twice since she got in on Tuesday. Yes, she's obsessed!

Today's music is Joni Mitchell. I needed something mellow after Christmas shopping!

Fun times with Lenore

While Lenore and Daniel were here, she had a library book panel at the Johnson County Library in Overland Park. So, on Tuesday afternoon, November 27th, Lenore, her friend Rachelle and I took off for KC. We had a great time visiting on the way up and back, and I didn't get tired at all driving! We stopped for a quick bite to eat at Arby's and filled up with gas at QT before heading to the library. It was an interesting panel featuring Bethany Hagen, author of Landry Park, which comes out next year; Gennifer Albin, author of Crewel, which was released a few months ago; and Lenore, whose book will be released on January 15. Here's the panel: Me & Lenore: Lenore & Rachelle: Gennifer, Bethany and Lenore

VACATION

On vacation for a few days (return to work on Thursday)...here's where I wish I was... I plan on enjoying some peace and quiet...and possibly, if I get motivated, getting some cleaning and organizing done in the office area of the basement. We'll see if that motivation arrives (it's not here yet)... Good news for Park City residents...recycling came to town the first of January. We are charged $4.00 month (added onto our already high water bill); but it has lowered the price of our trash pickup. The company P.C. contracted with has a much lower price than the company we use. Our company matched the price, so our trash bills went down (considerably) AND we get to recycle. We can recycle almost all our plastics, newspapers, cardboard, aluminum cans, cereal boxes, glass, motor oil, etc. We've got two big bags to set out tomorrow. Just doin' our part for the environment. We are without hot water right now...our hot water heater needs a new thermo-couple? It's a fair
