Easter 2009

We had the family over for Easter dinner today. It was a rainy, blah day, but we managed to have a great time.

Mom got to look at a bunch of old pictures and postcards. She's been saving postcards for years, and I found another scrapbook full of them when I was going through her things. She was in seventh heaven! Here come the pictures:

Mike and Terry being goofy. This reminded all of us of dad and my uncle Gerald, who were the family comedians. And one of them actually behaving. My nephew Nick obviously inherited some of the family goofiness.Mom with all her babies...(okay, so we're not really babies...)My best friend and SISTA, Melody with me and mom.Nick, Sandy, Terry and Mom...Diana, Mike and Mom...
The host and hostess and MOM!And, last but not least, Abby - she wanted in on the action!I didn't take pictures of the food, but it was yummy. Corby fixed meatloaf, baked mashed potatoes with sour cream and cheese (AWESOME!), corn and salad. Melody brought a ham and some great strawberries - some of them chocolate covered (double yummy!). We also had a veggie tray provided by Terry & Sandy; and Corby made a chocolate mayonnaise cake with sour cream frosting. Great food - great family time!

Now Corby is relaxing by watching the Cubs. Well, depending on how the game goes, we'll see if he relaxes...

Tomorrow it's back to work on Mom's medicaid application. I'm on vacation, and will be making another trip out to the social security office. Great fun (NOT!). Actually, the lady who helped me last Wednesday afternoon was very nice and very helpful, and I really didn't have to wait very long. I got my questions answered, and am going back with the necessary paperwork to get a replacement social security card for mom. Just a tip: if your social security card is not issued in the exact name you were born with, you're in for some fun. Mom's birth name is Dorothy, but from the time she was about 2 years old she was called Billie. Her dad's name was Bill, and she became "little" Billie. That is the name she's used for almost 80 years. It's what was on her social security card, her marriage license, and almost all of her legal paperwork. But due to the Patriot Act, your card must be issued in the name that is on your birth certificate. I found out the hard way.

My current read is Paradise Valley by Robyn Carr. It's book 7 in her Virgin River series. I am really enjoying these books. I'm not sure what I will read next as I have about 40 books waiting to be read. I'm thinking it might be Michael J. Fox's new book"Always Looking Up: The Adventures of an Incurable Optimist."

I haven't posted a quote in quite a while. This is from Erma Bombeck, and quite fitting on this day shared with my siblings: "The family. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another's desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together."

what great family pictures - how nice you were all able to be together!
I tried to call yesterday to wish you all a happy Easter but the connection was bad. Looks like you had a great time!

We had a bbq in the garden with the neighbors.

Today is Daniel's birthday!

These pictures are great. It was a great time even though the weather sucked. Rained most of the day. Food was great. Kudos to the chef, Corby.
Love you all, Rhonda, Allie, and Rascal.

VACATION

On vacation for a few days (return to work on Thursday)...here's where I wish I was... I plan on enjoying some peace and quiet...and possibly, if I get motivated, getting some cleaning and organizing done in the office area of the basement. We'll see if that motivation arrives (it's not here yet)... Good news for Park City residents...recycling came to town the first of January. We are charged $4.00 month (added onto our already high water bill); but it has lowered the price of our trash pickup. The company P.C. contracted with has a much lower price than the company we use. Our company matched the price, so our trash bills went down (considerably) AND we get to recycle. We can recycle almost all our plastics, newspapers, cardboard, aluminum cans, cereal boxes, glass, motor oil, etc. We've got two big bags to set out tomorrow. Just doin' our part for the environment. We are without hot water right now...our hot water heater needs a new thermo-couple? It's a fair

Fun times with Lenore

While Lenore and Daniel were here, she had a library book panel at the Johnson County Library in Overland Park. So, on Tuesday afternoon, November 27th, Lenore, her friend Rachelle and I took off for KC. We had a great time visiting on the way up and back, and I didn't get tired at all driving! We stopped for a quick bite to eat at Arby's and filled up with gas at QT before heading to the library. It was an interesting panel featuring Bethany Hagen, author of Landry Park, which comes out next year; Gennifer Albin, author of Crewel, which was released a few months ago; and Lenore, whose book will be released on January 15. Here's the panel: Me & Lenore: Lenore & Rachelle: Gennifer, Bethany and Lenore
