July 4th Celebration!

We had a wonderful time with family and friends last night. Most all of the family made it, except for my sister Rhonda, who was having problems with her knee. My brother, Terry and nephew, Nick came over for a while because we were also celebrating Corby's birthday (June 22), but had to get home because Sandy's kids and parents are here visiting. Terry took mom back to his house for a while so she could visit with Sandy's parents and see Sandy's newest grandbaby, Cara. Nick stayed here and hung out with us. Corby fixed pulled pork, cole slaw and beans, and everybody brought the rest of the goodies: deviled eggs, hash brown casserole, cheese ball, chips and 2 delicious desserts!

I really thought the economy this year would limit the amount of fireworks we saw, but I think there were more this year than any past year, and we've lived here for 9 years now! They were constant for over 2 hours, all around us. We had some for the kids to shoot off - by kids - I mean the neighbor kids. Our kids all had to work. Kaleb got off at 6, so he was home for most of the celebration; Brandon got off at 8, so he got in on the best of the fireworks; and Kaitlin, who was supposed to work until 10 got off a little early and was home by 9:40 - so she got to see a lot of the fireworks too.

Here are some pics of the festivities:

Corby got "stuck" in this chair. He managed to crawl out...eventually!

Another great July 4th Celebration!

Looks like you had a great time. It rained most of the day and part of the evening at our house. But we were able to squeeze a few fireworks in, later that night.

sorry about the rain Deb. It was cloudy and looked like rain most of the day until about 5pm, but it turned out nice. We miss you guys! We MUST get together soon. The kids leave for school on Aug. 1st.
Wow - why do they leave for school so early? When does it start?

Fun times with Lenore

While Lenore and Daniel were here, she had a library book panel at the Johnson County Library in Overland Park. So, on Tuesday afternoon, November 27th, Lenore, her friend Rachelle and I took off for KC. We had a great time visiting on the way up and back, and I didn't get tired at all driving! We stopped for a quick bite to eat at Arby's and filled up with gas at QT before heading to the library. It was an interesting panel featuring Bethany Hagen, author of Landry Park, which comes out next year; Gennifer Albin, author of Crewel, which was released a few months ago; and Lenore, whose book will be released on January 15. Here's the panel: Me & Lenore: Lenore & Rachelle: Gennifer, Bethany and Lenore

K-STATE WINS!

K-STATE beat KU! AWESOME! It was a tense game. Corby is a huge KU fan, and even having a son at K-State hasn't changed that. I am happy when any Kansas team does well; but I had to root for K-State tonight. If the Jayhawks had to lose, I'm glad it was to K-State. Michael Beasley is a great player, and my only concern is that he will leave after his freshman year and go pro. WAY TO GO CATS!
