Our goal this weekend was to find some furniture for the basement. We let the kids have our couch, loveseat, coffee table and one end table when they left for Manhattan. Yesterday was city-wide garage sales, so we headed out about 8am on our search. I still laugh when I see what some people call a "sale". One or two small tables in your driveway with $10 worth of stuff on it does not constitute a sale. We drove past about 20 "sales" before finally seeing one with some furniture. We found a nice couch and love seat for a reasonable price. It's got a few spots on the cushions, but is very comfortable and much cheaper than buying new furniture. Of course, since Kaitlin and her truck are at college, we had to figure out how to get it home. Our friend and neighbor Paul has a truck, and he's such a good guy, we were sure he would help us. It took several phone calls and coordinating our schedules, but we finally were able to pick it up around 3:30pm. And Paul got a 6 pack of Bud Lime beer for helping us.
We also did our usual Saturday errands. We took mom some of her winter clothes and brought back some of her summer clothes. She swears she doesn't have any clothes to wear, but she has plenty for the winter. I even made her try on all the pants to make sure they fit. We grabbed a bite to eat - Taco Bell - our junk food for the week, and then went over to my best friend Melody's house. Corby looked at her refrigerator for her. Her ice maker wasn't working, and she had to shut off the water to the water in the door because of a leak. He looked at it and has a couple of ideas that might fix it, but wanted to consult w/Paul, yes, the same neighbor that helped us with the furniture. He's a very knowledgeable handyman, and Corby has learned a lot from him. We also made treks to Walmart (UGH!) and Leeker's.
Today has been spent doing laundry, paying bills and cleaning the basement. We put the furniture in the garage yesterday so we could clean it up - sweep it, febreeze it, etc. before bringing it in. It's quite a bit larger than our old furniture, so we had to arrange it a bit different. But the good thing is, you can sit on either piece of furniture and see the big screen TV. The kids will be happy about that!

Kaleb will be making a trip to KC late this afternoon to pick up their roommate Dom at the airport. I'm not too thrilled about him driving in KC since he's never done it before, but since he's 18 and on his own at this point, there's not much I can do about it. Brandon is working and can't go with him...
Also I've been asking for prayers for some good friends of our, Susan and Dennis. Dennis has an aggressive form of thyroid cancer. He had brain surgery yesterday - they thought he had a brain tumor, but when they went in they determined it was a blood mass, and most likely NOT part of the thyroid cancer. As soon as he's released from Wesley he will be heading to MD Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston for treatment. Please keep Dennis and Susan, and their two boys, Danny and Sam in your prayers.
Kaitlin will be coming home next weekend. She'll be coming home Friday night and going back Monday night - they are out of school on Monday. I'm looking forward to seeing her!
Today's music has been a combination of genres: America, Taylor Swift, Journey, Keith Urban and Styx. It's been on shuffle, so lots of different stuff coming up - even some Christmas music, which I've been skipping. Not quite ready for that yet!
