Reading Meme

I copied this from my niece Lenore's blog...she is an awesome YA book reviewer. You can see her blog here

Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?
I must admit that I sometimes eat sunflower seeds while reading. It's a very old habit...and one I should probably break.

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
I never write in my books. Ever.

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
Never dog ear, always bookmark. And it can be anything. An actual bookmark, a piece of paper, a receipt, etc.

Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?
Mostly fiction, but I do enjoy reading an occasional biography or crime book.

Hard copy or audio books?
Always hard copy. I tried an audio book once and couldn't concentrate enough to keep up with it. I want that cold, hard book in my hands, another reason I'm not interested in purchasing a Kindle.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?
I usually put a book down at the end of a chapter, but once in a while if I'm super tired I'll just stop anywhere.

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away?
Can't think of a time, recently at least, that I've come across an unfamiliar word.

What are you currently reading?
Currently reading SMASH CUT by Sandra Brown.

What is the last book you bought?
The newest Nicholas Sparks book, The Last Song. I think I will be reading it next, even though I have a bunch of books that I've had longer. Oh well, I can read whatever I want, can't I?

Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time?
Rarely will I have two books going at once. Once in a great while I will forget to take my current book with me when I leave for work, and if I have time at lunch to read, I might pick up a book from our "mini-library" at work and start reading it.

Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read?
My favorite time of day to read is at night before going to bed. Not in bed though, because I'll fall asleep. But generally I have a book with me at all times, so I'll read in the car while waiting for a train, read during my lunch, at doctor's appointments, etc.

Do you prefer series books or stand alone books?
I like both. There are several authors who have written, and continue to write, great series. I love getting caught up with the same characters over and over again. But I also like the stand-alone books.

Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over?
I have a lot of favorite authors, so it depends on who I'm talking to. I'll recommend different authors according to the other person's taste.

How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?)
My books are unorganized. I don't keep a lot of my books anymore - I usually sell them at my garage sale. I used to keep them years and years ago, but when I ended up with well over 2000 books in a small house with 3 small kids, I finally had to get rid of them. I've kept a few favorites over the years, but mostly I sell them.

I need to sell or give away more of mine. They are taking over!

First Day of School

It's tradition at my house to take a "first day of school" picture. The kids get less and less thrilled every year, but I still do it. Here are the twins before they left for their first day of senior year: Kind of funny that they both wore gray - unplanned of course! I think Kaitlin is putting in her plug for the college she'd like to go to. They had a good day. Found out that at 1800 students, Heights is over their limit by 400 students!!! OMG! I'm not sure what the answer is, but it is WAY TOO CROWDED! I think the northeast side of town needs a new high school. Something needs to be done! Just finished my Nora Roberts book, and have started New Moon, the second book in Stephenie Meyer's vampire series. Kaitlin took Abby to the vet yesterday to get her last distemper shot and a rabies shot. The vet told her that she comes from a line of very strong / physically superior cats. I knew there was some reason that she climbs EVERYWHERE in the house, including u...
