Kaitlin's Home and September Books

Kaitlin made it home last night around 10:30. She had company on the trip - one of the guys that she & Kaleb went to Heights with rode home with her. She may have 2 friends riding with her on the way back, as she found out another friend came home this weekend, but his mom drove to Manhattan and picked him up.

We slept in a bit this morning since we stayed up late last night visiting. Went to see mom. Sold some of my Longaberger pottery and met up with the guy in west Wichita. I'm keeping my favorite Longaberger baskets and pottery, but am slowly selling some of my things. We also went to a couple of Goodwill stores - in Maize & the one at 37th & Oliver. Kaitlin is looking for jackets, sweatshirts and/or hoodies. We managed to get one pair of sweat pants and 7 sweatshirts/hoodies for her. Of course, I was looking for books while she shopped for clothes (see below). We also did some grocery shopping at Dillons and then had dinner at Olive Garden - Kaitlin's favorite restaurant. Now Kaitlin & Corby are watching Wolverine. I don't care for those kinds of movies, but they enjoy them...

I read 7 books in September:

The Scoop by Fern Michaels (one of my favorite authors)
The Shack by Wm Paul Young (thought provoking)
The Neighbor by Lisa Gardner (if you haven't read any of Gardner's books, you MUST!)
Cutting Edge by Allison Brennan (a new favorite author)
Smash Cut by Sandra Brown
The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks (soon to be a movie starring Miley Cyrus - excellent book!)
The MacGregor Grooms by Nora Roberts (another favorite author)

I went on a book buying bonanza today. Went to Border's because I had a gift card. They had some books buy one, get the second one for 50% off, so I bought four:

Wedding Belles - Haywood Smith
Confessions of a Counterfeit Farm Girl - Susan McCorkindale
I Never Fancied Him Anyway - Claudia Carroll
Pieces of Happily Ever After - Irene Zutell

Also picked up 6 books at Goodwill:
Slow Heat in Heaven - Sandra Brown
Kentucky Sunrise - Fern Michaels
Celebutantes - Amanda Goldberg & Ruthanna Khalighi Hopper
A Covington Christmas - Joan Medlicott
Decked - Carol Higgins Clark
Absolute Fear - Lisa Jackson

I've read a lot of Lisa Jackson's books - but I'm hoping I haven't read this one yet. It's a hardback and the cover was missing. I read the first page or so and it didn't sound familiar...Oh well - even if I've read it, I got it for $1.99!

Tomorrow will be another busy day. We want to hit some more Goodwill stores, as well as do our grocery shopping at Leeker's. I also need to do some laundry. Kaitlin doesn't have to head home until late Monday afternoon since they don't have classes that day. I took the day off work...

I'm hoping to spend some time with my friend Susan tomorrow. I was unable to reach her today but I'm sure it was a very difficult day, and they have plans to make for Dennis' funeral. Oh, more bad news, Dennis' dad also passed away yesterday! He was terminally ill and only had a short time to live, but I didn't find out until this morning that they passed away on the same day. Prayers going to their whole family...

First Day of School

It's tradition at my house to take a "first day of school" picture. The kids get less and less thrilled every year, but I still do it. Here are the twins before they left for their first day of senior year: Kind of funny that they both wore gray - unplanned of course! I think Kaitlin is putting in her plug for the college she'd like to go to. They had a good day. Found out that at 1800 students, Heights is over their limit by 400 students!!! OMG! I'm not sure what the answer is, but it is WAY TOO CROWDED! I think the northeast side of town needs a new high school. Something needs to be done! Just finished my Nora Roberts book, and have started New Moon, the second book in Stephenie Meyer's vampire series. Kaitlin took Abby to the vet yesterday to get her last distemper shot and a rabies shot. The vet told her that she comes from a line of very strong / physically superior cats. I knew there was some reason that she climbs EVERYWHERE in the house, including u...
