Vacation Week

It was a glorious week of vacation! I truly needed it!

After my trip to Manhattan on Monday, I did some things around the house on Tuesday. Wednesday, I met my good friend, Anne, for lunch at Chopstix. We had a great visit. Wednesday night, I went out to dinner with my friends Melody and Susan. We went to Savute's on N. Broadway. I hadn't been there for a very long time. When I was a kid, Grammy & Wilbur would take us there for special occasions. At that time it was called Rosie's, and it's still owned by the same family. I had a steak, which honestly was rather gristly, but the salad, baked potato & turtle cheesecake were really good. Then we went to see GONE WITH THE WIND at the Orpheum Theatre.

I hadn't been to the Orpheum for several years, and the renovations continue. The entrance is beautiful! However, the seats are still uncomfortable. Needless to say, since GWTW is such a long movie, our "tushes" were all numb by the end of the evening. Thank goodness they had an intermission, or I'm not sure I could have made it. But it was a wonderful evening, and I will definitely go back, just not for a four hour movie!

I took lunch to my sister, Rhonda, on Thursday and we had a good visit. She is still waiting to hear back from Aetna about a customer service position that she applied for. Thursday evening Corby and I went car shopping. We found a Ford Taurus we liked, but have decided to wait a few months and start looking again. That's because we found out Friday morning when I did taxes that we owe for BOTH Federal and Kansas! UGH! Normally we get enough back from Federal to pay state, but not this year. Thank goodness it's not due until April, AND we get an extra paycheck in April!

Saturday was a gloomy, wet, dreary day. We started off our day by eating breakfast at Cracker Barrel, then stopped by Walmart to pick up a few things. We also bought a cool mist humidifer to use at night - hoping it will help Corby's allergies. Our visit to see mom was a good one. She was in a good mood, and excited because I brought a scrapbook for her. She's been excited the last few weeks when my brother has brought old pictures to look at, so I thought looking at some of my scrapbooks might please her too. It did! There were pages dedicated to her surprise 75th birthday party, and she enjoyed looking at those. We went to Vanderbilt's from there and bought Corby a new pair of steel-toed boots for work.

They were $129! He will get $50 back from his employer - as that is what they will "chip-in" each year. You can't find a good pair of boots for that price, especially in his size. His feet are fairly small and wide. But he does like them, and wore them around yesterday to try to break them in.

Today we woke up to sleet/ice.

No snow yet, but they are predicting we may get some this afternoon. I would rather just get the snow and not all this other crap. Spring needs to get here and SOON!

Back to work tomorrow...it's hard to go back when you've had a whole week off, but we are looking forward to a visit from Kaitlin and her best friend, Lydia, this weekend. They are actually coming Thursday night and will go back Sunday evening. Corby has a comedy concert to attend on Friday night and I'm sure we'll take the girls out to eat on Saturday night.

Can't have a post without pics of Abby and Muffin...

And remember the stray dog who was hanging around our backyard? We finally cornered it on our deck late Friday afternoon. I called Animal Control and they came and got her. We just couldn't keep her...poor thing. Hopefully she will find a good home, or her owners.

And I'll end with a quote, since I haven't posted one in quite a while: "Only through our connectedness to others can we really know and enhance the self. And only through working on the self can we begin to enhance our connectedness to others." -- Harriet Goldhor Lerner

He could live with ghosts, Declan thought as he ran his hand over the side of his first completed cabinet. But he wouldn't rest until he knew them.

VACATION

On vacation for a few days (return to work on Thursday)...here's where I wish I was... I plan on enjoying some peace and quiet...and possibly, if I get motivated, getting some cleaning and organizing done in the office area of the basement. We'll see if that motivation arrives (it's not here yet)... Good news for Park City residents...recycling came to town the first of January. We are charged $4.00 month (added onto our already high water bill); but it has lowered the price of our trash pickup. The company P.C. contracted with has a much lower price than the company we use. Our company matched the price, so our trash bills went down (considerably) AND we get to recycle. We can recycle almost all our plastics, newspapers, cardboard, aluminum cans, cereal boxes, glass, motor oil, etc. We've got two big bags to set out tomorrow. Just doin' our part for the environment. We are without hot water right now...our hot water heater needs a new thermo-couple? It's a fair

Terrible Day

I'm not going to go into a lot of detail here, but suffice it to say that I had a TERRIBLE day at work! I made a huge mistake costing the company some revenue, and I feel awful! I certainly didn't need anyone to get on my butt, because I was kicking myself for the better part of the day. I know, I know, I'm human, but this was a BIG human mistake! I hate to admit that I'm human! HATE TO MAKE MISTAKES - ESPECIALLY BIG ONES! Okay, that's it. I'm having a margarita and trying to relax now. I'm done with being human for a while!
