The twins are driving us crazy with car buying fever. We took Kaitlin to look at a 97 Chevy Cavalier today. Looked pretty decent on the outside, not too bad on the inside; but when we went for a test drive, it rattled something terrible. Not sure what the problem was, but we turned around and went right back to the car lot. Kaleb called on a 95 Ford Escort tonight, so we are going to look at it tomorrow morning. Corby hates Fords, but at least this one would be economical. Kaitlin called on another car tonight, but had to leave a message. Ugh! I hate car shopping.
This is how Corby spent the early evening hours. Cinnamon would NOT stay out of his way. Everywhere he went, she followed. Guess she was lonely.
This is a frame for a swing. We never got around to buying a swing for it this summer, but we're hoping to find one this fall. There is a family history story behind this swing. It was built by my "grandfather", Wilbur. See, Wilbur was not truly our grandfather - he was just a guy who dated my grandmother for about 40 years. We grew up calling them Grammy and Wilbur. There's more to that story that I'll tell some other time. Anyway, Wilbur owned a steel shop at 53rd & Broadway, and he built this swing when my brother, Terry, was little. When we were kids, there were several swings on there. In later years, my dad put a porch-type swing on it. I have lots of memories of swinging in my mom and dad's back yard, with my best friend, Melody, and with the kids when they were little. So when we sold mom's house in April, I told Corby I wanted the swing. Maybe one of these days I will get to swing on it again!
Our garage sale is next Saturday. Perhaps the garage will be a bit emptier than this when we're done. We've got mom's stuff to sell, and I have some "junk" too. There was a time when I enjoyed having garage sales, but those days are gone. I dread them now. Maybe it's because I'm older. Maybe it's because we don't have the great location we had at our house down south. We were the second house off Pawnee, and all we had to do was put a sign at the corner and we had customers by the dozens. When you do the city-wide sale here in Park City, sometimes you'll do good, and sometimes you don't. I think it depends on how many sales there are, and how tired people get! Anyway, come out and see us next Saturday if you can. We have mom's "electric" lift recliner, a chimenea (I have no clue how to spell that and I'm a good speller!), clothes, scrapbooking & stamping stuff, lamps, and JUNK!
Picked up my latest "on hold" book from the library. I've read several of Karin Slaughter's books. This one looks good!
Another quote in hopes of seeing fall colors and temps soon: "Listen! the wind is rising, and the air is wild with leaves. We have had our summer evenings, now for October eves!" -- Humbert Wolfe
