Brandon's Home!

Brandon is home for the weekend. He got here about 9:30 last night. We had a busy day. Visited mom this morning. She was sick a couple of days this week, so is glad to be feeling better. We had a nice visit. Did the normal Saturday errand-running, including stops at Leeker's and Sam's. Tomorrow will be another busy day. My niece, Lenore, is here from Germany; so most of my family is meeting at On The Border tomorrow afternoon for a late lunch. Lenore heads back early Tuesday morning, and tomorrow is the only chance I will have to see her; since Monday afternoon Brandon, Kaleb and I are headed to Kansas City to see GARTH and Trisha!
Back to my niece, be sure and check out her blog. You can find the link in the upper right hand corner of my blog -- Presenting Lenore. She and Daniel live in Germany, but travel all over the world. She tells about her travels and her life in Germany. She has written a children's book, and Daniel did the illustrations. We hope it gets published someday soon. You can check out Daniel's daily drawings through a link on Lenore's blog. Mom loves to get postcards from Lenore's travels, especially when she travels with Daniel, because he always does a little drawing for her. Lenore has been in the states for a few weeks, visiting friends on the East coast. She will head home to Germany and Daniel next week. This picture of Lenore was obviously taken at her wedding last May. I am putting a necklace on her that is an Appelhans (my maiden name) tradition. It was my grandmother's diamond heart necklace, and I wore it at my wedding, both my sister-in-laws, Diana and Sandy, wore it at their weddings to my brothers, Mike and Terry; and now Lenore has worn it. Someday Kaitlin will wear it at her wedding too. This is pretty bad, but I can't remember if Lenore's mom, Barbara, wore it at her wedding to Terry. Terry - do you know? Sadly, we lost Barbara to cancer in 1994, the same year we lost my dad.

I am currently reading "Split Second" by Alex Kava. I've read a few of her books that Brandon loaned me. I found out after we got home today that the library called to tell me one of the books I put on hold is available and ready to be picked up. I wish I would have known this morning, as we went right by the library today! Oh well, we will be back on the west side of town tomorrow for our family dinner, so I can pick it up then. I use the Westlink library as we are always on the west side of town on Saturdays to see mom, etc.

Today's music is GARTH of course! I have to get ready for his concert Monday night. I picked up his latest CD at Walmart - The Ultimate Hits, a 3 disc set. It has 33 songs on 2 CD's, and 33 Videos on the DVD. All this for $11.97!!!! YIPPEE! I know what I'll be watching tonight. Well maybe. I won't be able to get near a TV because I'm sure Corby will be watching the KU football game. We've obviously given up on the K-State football team!

Quote of the day: "A mother's love for her child is like nothing else in this world. It knows no law, no pity, it crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path." -- Agatha Christie

First Day of School

It's tradition at my house to take a "first day of school" picture. The kids get less and less thrilled every year, but I still do it. Here are the twins before they left for their first day of senior year: Kind of funny that they both wore gray - unplanned of course! I think Kaitlin is putting in her plug for the college she'd like to go to. They had a good day. Found out that at 1800 students, Heights is over their limit by 400 students!!! OMG! I'm not sure what the answer is, but it is WAY TOO CROWDED! I think the northeast side of town needs a new high school. Something needs to be done! Just finished my Nora Roberts book, and have started New Moon, the second book in Stephenie Meyer's vampire series. Kaitlin took Abby to the vet yesterday to get her last distemper shot and a rabies shot. The vet told her that she comes from a line of very strong / physically superior cats. I knew there was some reason that she climbs EVERYWHERE in the house, including u...
