We sent Brandon back to Manhattan last week with Corby's old Suburban because his car started acting up right before he left. Since "radiator hell" last fall, his car has been running pretty good. We decided it was the water pump. Corby finally had a chance to look at it on Sunday. Since it's a Toyota, it's not as easy to work on (meaning they hide parts well). After taking some parts off to try to get to the water pump, he decided it was just too hard to get to and he didn't have all the right tools. We took it to a mechanic here in Park City recommended by a guy we know who had worked on the old Corsica for us. Well, $575 later, the Corolla is finally fixed. Not only did he need a new water pump, but he needed a new timing belt. The timing belt wasn't at the breaking point, but it was almost there, and since he had to remove it anyway to get to the water pump, we told him to go ahead and replace it. Otherwise we would have had to pay for labor twice. UGH! The car is ready to be picked up tomorrow.
In the middle of all of that mess, Kaleb's car wouldn't start when he got off work last night. Our jumper cables are in the Suburban in Manhattan with Brandon, so Corby had to go to Atwood's and get more cables. We got the car started and home (in the middle of all the icy roads), and Corby got a new battery on his way home from work tonight. After putting the battery in, the car still wouldn't start. Upon further examination, he's now determined that it needs a new starter. Thank goodness he can do it himself! He'll pick that up on his way home from work tomorrow night and hopefully get it running then!
At this point we are knocking on wood that something doesn't happen to the van or Kaitlin's truck! Will you all knock on wood for us?
On a sad note, I'm sure everyone has heard by now of the death of Heath Ledger. How sad! I remember seeing him for the first time in "The Patriot" with Mel Gibson. I agree with another blogger friend who said the media needs to let him rest in peace and think of his family during this difficult time. I think the media is getting out of hand...
And today's quote is a sympathy quote for Heath's family: "Memories...keep the one you loved close to you in spirit and thought...and always in your heart."
