Entertainment Weekly

I got my new issue of Entertainment Weekly in the mail yesterday. I've just begun reading it. They are listing the NEW CLASSICS - The 1000 Best Movies, TV Shows, Albums, Books & More of the Last 25 Years. It starts off with the movies. I'm going to list their Top 20 here and tell you what I think about the choice.

1. Pulp Fiction - hated this movie! Corby and I only made it halfway through before turning it off.
2. The Lord of the Rings trilogy - the kids have loved these movies, but they're not my style, so I haven't seen any of them.
3. Titanic - good movie, but #3???
4. Blue Velvet - haven't seen it, no real desire to.
5. Toy Story - good choice. One of my favorite animated movies.
6. Saving Private Ryan - I have yet to see this movie, but Kaitlin is obsessed with it since watching it in school this year.
7. Hannah and Her Sisters - another one I haven't seen. I'm not a big Woody Allen fan.
8. The Silence of the Lambs - good choice. Who could forget Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter?
9. Die Hard - LOVE the Die Hard movies!
10. Moulin Rouge - not a movie I would typically watch - and it's pretty strange, but I truly did enjoy it and the music! I doubt I would rank it in my top 10 though.
11. This is Spinal Tap - never seen it.
12. The Matrix - don't freak - but I haven't seen this either. Not a Keanu Reeves fan, though it he kinda cute.
13. GoodFellas - I've heard it's good, but I've never seen it.
14. Crumb - I've never even heard of this movie.
15. Edward Scissorhands - I am so NOT a Johnny Depp fan. Sorry all you gals (and guys) who think he's hot!
16. Boogie Nights - no desire to see this one either.
17. Jerry Maguire - loved this movie - of course it was before Tom Cruise went off the deep end.
18. Do the Right Thing - haven't seen it.
19. Casino Royale - sorry - after they pulled Pierce Brosnan from the James Bond movies I don't intend to see any of them.
20. The Lion King - LOVE THIS MOVIE, LOVE THE MUSIC!

Some other notables in their list:
#25 - Shrek - another favorite animated movie
#33 - The Breakfast Club - Great movie - great music - and Brandon even counts this as one of his favorites - after watching it in his senior year of high school.
#37 - Pretty Woman - who can forget Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Now HE'S a HUNK!
#39 - The Sixth Sense - VERY different movie, and very enjoyable.
#54 - Fatal Attraction - Glenn Close did a great job as the obsessed lover.
#72 - Thelma & Louise - enjoyed this movie, and besides - it introduced us to Brad Pitt!

Some movies I felt deserved to be in the top 50 (at least):
Braveheart, The Patriot, Lethal Weapon (can you tell I like Mel Gibson?), Steel Magnolias, Kramer vs. Kramer, all the Indiana Jones movies, and E.T. I'm sure there are more, but I'm brain dead right now.

Tell me what you think? What are some of your favorite movies that you don't see listed here? Do you agree with the top 20 from EW?

Discussion, please...

Fun times with Lenore

While Lenore and Daniel were here, she had a library book panel at the Johnson County Library in Overland Park. So, on Tuesday afternoon, November 27th, Lenore, her friend Rachelle and I took off for KC. We had a great time visiting on the way up and back, and I didn't get tired at all driving! We stopped for a quick bite to eat at Arby's and filled up with gas at QT before heading to the library. It was an interesting panel featuring Bethany Hagen, author of Landry Park, which comes out next year; Gennifer Albin, author of Crewel, which was released a few months ago; and Lenore, whose book will be released on January 15. Here's the panel: Me & Lenore: Lenore & Rachelle: Gennifer, Bethany and Lenore

VACATION

On vacation for a few days (return to work on Thursday)...here's where I wish I was... I plan on enjoying some peace and quiet...and possibly, if I get motivated, getting some cleaning and organizing done in the office area of the basement. We'll see if that motivation arrives (it's not here yet)... Good news for Park City residents...recycling came to town the first of January. We are charged $4.00 month (added onto our already high water bill); but it has lowered the price of our trash pickup. The company P.C. contracted with has a much lower price than the company we use. Our company matched the price, so our trash bills went down (considerably) AND we get to recycle. We can recycle almost all our plastics, newspapers, cardboard, aluminum cans, cereal boxes, glass, motor oil, etc. We've got two big bags to set out tomorrow. Just doin' our part for the environment. We are without hot water right now...our hot water heater needs a new thermo-couple? It's a fair
