Fair to middlin' weekend

I went out for drinks after work on Friday with my friends Vickie and Becky. We had a wonderful visit. Can't really post what we talked about, but suffice it to say that some ears at work might have been burning!

Brandon went to see The Dark Knight late Friday night with some friends. He thought it was really good, but said it dragged in a few places. Otherwise, I am hearing excellent reviews about it, so I think Corby and I may go see it next weekend. I'd also like to see Mamma Mia - I love Pierce Brosnan!

Yesterday we made a trip to the farmer's market at 21st & Ridge. We got some of the BEST tomatoes we've ever had. Our tomato plants bombed this year, except for the cherry tomatoes. We also picked up a loaf of Oat Bread from Delano Bakery. YUM! And it's healthy too!

After visiting mom on Saturday, we stopped by my brother and sister-in-law's house. Corby had replaced their garbage disposal over a month ago, and there was a problem with their dishwasher draining, so we stopped to see if he could fix it. Two hours later he had it fixed. It shouldn't have taken him so long, but...he got so frustrated at one point that I made him take a break (and that took me a while since he's SO STUBBORN!), but once he took the break he found the problem and had it fixed in about 10 minutes! We did some grocery shopping at "Brandon's" Dillons - well - the one he works at anyway - 21st & Maize. They have WAY TOO MANY employees! You can hardly get through the store because there are so many employees asking if they can help you find something. I realize they just re-opened as a "Marketplace" store, but my gosh, maybe they should curb the hiring and cut the prices!

We rented College Road Trip and watched it last night. You all know about my love for all things OSMOND! This movie was really cute! Martin Lawrence played Raven Symone's overprotective father who was ushering her to Georgetown for a college tour. Donny played a father who was doing the same with his daughter, and they met up on the road. Donny played a way DORKY squeaky "out there" father, but it was funny! We enjoyed it - especially the pet pig who got into coffee beans in the trash can and then went wild! Not a deep movie, but a cute one!

Today has been the usual clean house - do laundry day! We did run to Office Depot this morning and got a great desk for Brandon since he's living in an apartment this school year. It was on sale for $49 and has a place for his stereo on an upper shelf and slots for CD's, etc. We'll leave it in the box (easier to move) and Kaitlin will put it together when we get to Manhattan. She's our "putter-together" gal! She loves that kind of stuff! We are getting together with Brady (his roommate) and his parents tomorrow night to go over what they need for the apartment, what he has, what Brandon has, and what they still need to get. The best part of his renting an apartment this year? It's on the first floor! No running up and down 7 flights of stairs (like his dorm last year). I can't believe the summer is almost over and school will be starting soon. Brandon is going up the first weekend in August since they have to pay for the apartment for all of August. I enrolled the twins by mail, so at least I don't have to go stand in line at Heights. They'll just have to go over during enrollment and pick up their class schedule and get their ID picture taken.

Corby is fixing a yummy dinner tonight - baked chicken, roasted potatoes, biscuits (no we don't need them but they ARE yummy!) and he mixed tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions with light Italian dressing and let that soak overnight! We'll have a late dinner since the boys both work until 8. Kaitlin gets off at 7.

I have a stockpile of books to read. Finished 3 books this week. Not sure what I will start tonight. Depends on my mood I guess!

I'll end with this quote since it's so HOT today: "Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it." -- Russel Baker

VACATION

On vacation for a few days (return to work on Thursday)...here's where I wish I was... I plan on enjoying some peace and quiet...and possibly, if I get motivated, getting some cleaning and organizing done in the office area of the basement. We'll see if that motivation arrives (it's not here yet)... Good news for Park City residents...recycling came to town the first of January. We are charged $4.00 month (added onto our already high water bill); but it has lowered the price of our trash pickup. The company P.C. contracted with has a much lower price than the company we use. Our company matched the price, so our trash bills went down (considerably) AND we get to recycle. We can recycle almost all our plastics, newspapers, cardboard, aluminum cans, cereal boxes, glass, motor oil, etc. We've got two big bags to set out tomorrow. Just doin' our part for the environment. We are without hot water right now...our hot water heater needs a new thermo-couple? It's a fair

K-STATE WINS!

K-STATE beat KU! AWESOME! It was a tense game. Corby is a huge KU fan, and even having a son at K-State hasn't changed that. I am happy when any Kansas team does well; but I had to root for K-State tonight. If the Jayhawks had to lose, I'm glad it was to K-State. Michael Beasley is a great player, and my only concern is that he will leave after his freshman year and go pro. WAY TO GO CATS!
