6 Random Things - I've Been Tagged

My friend Chris tagged me in her blog, so I've been thinking and thinking about 6 Random Things I could post...I've probably blogged about most of this stuff in the past, but...

Here are the rules:
* Link to the person who tagged you.
* Post the rules on your blog.
* Write 6 random things about yourself.
* Tag 6-ish people at the end of your post.
* Let each person know he/she has been tagged.
* Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

Here goes:

1) My first time on an airplane was in 1981, when my mom and I visited my oldest brother and his family. He was in the Air Force and they were stationed in Athens, Greece. When we booked our trip, we had to spend the night in one of 3 cities on our way home: Paris, London or Rome. We chose Rome - after all - I was raised Catholic. Unfortunately, Pope John Paul was shot the day before our arrival. When we took a taxi to St. Peter's Square and the Vatican, we found out that everything was closed because of the shooting. And to top it all off, the ONLY picture I have of me in Rome has my mother's finger over the lens. You can only see my bottom half.

2) I am extremely proud of my Grammy - my mom's mother. She was divorced from my grandfather when my mother was about 6, pretty unusual back in the 1930's. She worked her way up in sales at several department stores, most notably Buck's which was in downtown Wichita. Some of you out there who are my age or older may remember Buck's. When Buck's closed, she moved to Woolf Brothers. Anyway, I have a framed certificate that Grammy received on Feb. 7, 1946. It says "This is to certify that Hattie M. Elmore of Wichita, Kansas has satisfactorily completed the prescribed course of lectures and has passed all the tests required in the practical fitting of Camp Scientific Supports for Women and is therefore entitled to this Certificate. Given at Jackson, Michigan, this 7th day of February, A.D. 1949." What this basically means is that Grammy was certified to sell all kinds of women's lingerie - Postnatal and Postoperative, Maternity/Prenatal, Ptosis, Hernia, Orthopedic and Breast Support. This was quite an accomplishment back in the 40's. What's amazing about this woman is that she raised my mother, basically single-handed, lived in an apartment her entire life, and managed to have a good amount of money saved! Pretty amazing for a single mother from that generation! We lost Grammy over 20 years ago, but I still think about her a lot!

3) Corby and I met on a blind date. We met in May of 1987 while he was living in Oklahoma. He moved to Haysville 3 weeks later, we got engaged in October and were married on Dec. 26. Our first date was dinner at Willie C's (east) and we went to the movie, "Beverly Hills Cop". We will celebrate 21 years of wedded bliss in December.

4) Okay, I'll brag a bit here. Kaitlin has had a 4.0 GPA her entire academic life (so far). Kaleb has a 4.0 now, and has only had one B in high school. Brandon carried a 4.0 most of high school, and graduated with a 3.75 GPA. I only say this because I NEVER had a 4.0 GPA, and neither did Corby. Yes, I had B's, C's, and even a D in high school! And a tip here for those of you with babies - the kids kindergarten teacher once told me that reading to your kids is the best thing you can do! And since you all know I'm a voracious reader, we read EVERY night before bedtime when the kids were little.

5) I am addicted to Jon and Kate + 8 - the reality show on TLC. I won't go into detail, but watch it sometime. Having survived twins, I can't imagine having twins and then sextuplets.

6) I have seen the movie "Jesus Christ Superstar" approximately 150 times. Don't ask me why, but I was fixated on it in the 70's. It used to be shown every Easter and Christmas, and I would go see it night after night - sometimes with friends, sometimes alone. I can still sing every word when I watch the movie. And yes, I have it on DVD.

I'm tagging:

(sorry, I ran out of people at 5, since most of my blog buddies have already been tagged.)

Justin & I married fairly quickly as well. Met at the end of Oct. 1997 and married Oct. 5, 1998. Not as quick as you, but still pretty fast. Could be because there was a bun in the oven. ;o)

I love this because I just learned lots of new things about you. :-) Congrats to your children for their awesome GPA's. I don't read a lot to Jaycee so she will probably be a D average student. :-)

VACATION

On vacation for a few days (return to work on Thursday)...here's where I wish I was... I plan on enjoying some peace and quiet...and possibly, if I get motivated, getting some cleaning and organizing done in the office area of the basement. We'll see if that motivation arrives (it's not here yet)... Good news for Park City residents...recycling came to town the first of January. We are charged $4.00 month (added onto our already high water bill); but it has lowered the price of our trash pickup. The company P.C. contracted with has a much lower price than the company we use. Our company matched the price, so our trash bills went down (considerably) AND we get to recycle. We can recycle almost all our plastics, newspapers, cardboard, aluminum cans, cereal boxes, glass, motor oil, etc. We've got two big bags to set out tomorrow. Just doin' our part for the environment. We are without hot water right now...our hot water heater needs a new thermo-couple? It's a fair

K-STATE WINS!

K-STATE beat KU! AWESOME! It was a tense game. Corby is a huge KU fan, and even having a son at K-State hasn't changed that. I am happy when any Kansas team does well; but I had to root for K-State tonight. If the Jayhawks had to lose, I'm glad it was to K-State. Michael Beasley is a great player, and my only concern is that he will leave after his freshman year and go pro. WAY TO GO CATS!
