#1 Song

The #1 song on October 26, 1956 - the day I was born (yes I'm 52!) - was Don't Be Cruel / Hound Dog by the man himself, Mr. Elvis Presley.I saw Elvis in concert in 1977, shortly before he died. My mom was, and is to this day, a HUGE Elvis fan. She knew someone who ushered at concerts. Thus, we ended up as ushers for the show. My memory is a bit foggy, but I believe the concert was at Henry Levitt Arena. Elvis was probably the heaviest he'd ever been, but the women still swooned for him. I wouldn't rate it as one of the best concerts I've been to, but at least I can say I saw the KING!

My all-time favorite Presley song is "If I Can Dream". I believe it was the "B" side of one of his hits, but I rank it up there as #1 in my book. Check out the lyrics...this could have been written today...

If I Can Dream

There must be lights burning brighter somewhere
Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue
If I can dream of a better land
Where all my brothers walk hand in hand
Tell me why, oh why, oh why can't my dream come true

There must be peace and understanding sometime
Strong winds of promise that will blow away
All the doubt and fear
If I can dream of a warmer sun
Where hope keeps shining on everyone
Tell me why, oh why, oh why won't that sun appear

We're lost in a cloud
With too much rain
We're trapped in a world
That's troubled with pain
But as long as a man
Has the strength to dream
He can redeem his soul and fly

Deep in my heart there's a trembling question
Still I am sure that the answer gonna come somehow
Out there in the dark, there's a beckoning candle
And while I can think, while I can talk
While I can stand, while I can walk
While I can dream, please let my dream
Come true, right now
Let it come true right now
Oh yeah

The concert was at Henry Levitt Arena, I think. He was in his black leather jacket. I remember May Lary went. I never got to see him in concert but often wish I could have before his jumpsuit days. ~ Anne

What did you think of Adam Lambert on American Idol this week? He looked just like a young Elvis...it was almost spooky. I would have loved to have an Elvis song as the #1 of my birthday...it is a Sammy Davis Jr. number.

VACATION

On vacation for a few days (return to work on Thursday)...here's where I wish I was... I plan on enjoying some peace and quiet...and possibly, if I get motivated, getting some cleaning and organizing done in the office area of the basement. We'll see if that motivation arrives (it's not here yet)... Good news for Park City residents...recycling came to town the first of January. We are charged $4.00 month (added onto our already high water bill); but it has lowered the price of our trash pickup. The company P.C. contracted with has a much lower price than the company we use. Our company matched the price, so our trash bills went down (considerably) AND we get to recycle. We can recycle almost all our plastics, newspapers, cardboard, aluminum cans, cereal boxes, glass, motor oil, etc. We've got two big bags to set out tomorrow. Just doin' our part for the environment. We are without hot water right now...our hot water heater needs a new thermo-couple? It's a fair

K-STATE WINS!

K-STATE beat KU! AWESOME! It was a tense game. Corby is a huge KU fan, and even having a son at K-State hasn't changed that. I am happy when any Kansas team does well; but I had to root for K-State tonight. If the Jayhawks had to lose, I'm glad it was to K-State. Michael Beasley is a great player, and my only concern is that he will leave after his freshman year and go pro. WAY TO GO CATS!
