Our weekend...

I've been driving my car this week, even though it's still having problems with the tachometer and shifting. Yesterday, the "service engine soon" light came on. Corby tried replacing a gasket on the EGR valve - that didn't fix it, but we still don't want to spend $200 to replace it if that's not the problem. So off to the shop it goes. I'll be dropping it off tomorrow morning on my way to work. Thank goodness our mechanics are just a few blocks from work.

We did manage to get our errands done yesterday. Leeker's is having double $1 coupons this week, so I picked up some goodies. My bill was $98 - and ended up $56 after coupons. I LOVE SAVING MONEY! I don't buy anything we won't use. Normally this is how I buy shampoo, deodorant, cleaning supplies, etc. I did manage to get two 4-packs of Danactive yogurt drinks for .67 each, some Rhodes multi-grain frozen rolls (they are yummy) for .59 as well as other goodies. We usually buy dog treats this way too. There probably aren't very many double $1 coupon weeks left this year. As it gets closer to the holidays they have so many other specials they don't do double $1's. They always double up to .50 coupons anyway...

Went out for my birthday dinner last night. We ended up going to Abuelo's. I love the ambience, food AND margaritas there. Had a wonderful meal, all by ourself out in the sunroom part on the west side - we watched the calming waterfalls, etc. while we ate. Afterwards we walked around a bit, and enjoyed the nice evening.

Corby helped our neighbor Paul chop wood this morning - with a gas powered wood chopper! They were having a macho-fun time! I've just done my usual bill paying and laundry chores today. Still trying to go through tons of paperwork that has piled up and get filing and shredding done.

The Chiefs were terrible again this week! Hopefully someday they will have a winning team again. But the K-State Wildcats won again yesterday - they are looking good. Now if the Angels could beat the Yankees (I can dream, can't I?) to get into the World Series, I would be happy. Not that I'm an Angels fan, I just hate the Yankees!

Corby now has Kaitlin's old (green - see photo at right) Ipod. The kids have played the music shuffle. Kaitlin bought a new bigger Ipod before heading to K-State. At that time, Brandon's MP3 player had broken, so she gave him her old Ipod. Then Kaleb gave Brandon his Zune MP3 player in exchange for Brandon's laptop, so Brandon didn't need two! Did you get all that? I love my Ipod. Right now I'm even using it in my car because my CD player isn't working. I use it when I'm making plates at work too. I've got tons of music on mine and it's just over half full...what did we do without all the technology we have now?

So my music today has been varied, everything from Garth Brooks (yeah, he's coming out of retirement-sorta!), Styx, Barry Manilow, Amy Winehouse, Bob Seger, Bon Jovi (yeah, they're coming to Intrust Bank Arena next June!), Springsteen, Death Cab for Cutie and Five for Fighting...

Fun times with Lenore

While Lenore and Daniel were here, she had a library book panel at the Johnson County Library in Overland Park. So, on Tuesday afternoon, November 27th, Lenore, her friend Rachelle and I took off for KC. We had a great time visiting on the way up and back, and I didn't get tired at all driving! We stopped for a quick bite to eat at Arby's and filled up with gas at QT before heading to the library. It was an interesting panel featuring Bethany Hagen, author of Landry Park, which comes out next year; Gennifer Albin, author of Crewel, which was released a few months ago; and Lenore, whose book will be released on January 15. Here's the panel: Me & Lenore: Lenore & Rachelle: Gennifer, Bethany and Lenore

VACATION

On vacation for a few days (return to work on Thursday)...here's where I wish I was... I plan on enjoying some peace and quiet...and possibly, if I get motivated, getting some cleaning and organizing done in the office area of the basement. We'll see if that motivation arrives (it's not here yet)... Good news for Park City residents...recycling came to town the first of January. We are charged $4.00 month (added onto our already high water bill); but it has lowered the price of our trash pickup. The company P.C. contracted with has a much lower price than the company we use. Our company matched the price, so our trash bills went down (considerably) AND we get to recycle. We can recycle almost all our plastics, newspapers, cardboard, aluminum cans, cereal boxes, glass, motor oil, etc. We've got two big bags to set out tomorrow. Just doin' our part for the environment. We are without hot water right now...our hot water heater needs a new thermo-couple? It's a fair
