A Jewish Wedding

We attended a Messianic (Jewish & Gentile) wedding last night. My friend, Vonnie, from work married her honey, Bill. The ceremony began with a Shofar Blast. From the wedding program, a Shofar is described as an animal's horn prepared for use as a musical instrument. Together with the reed, it is one of the earliest musical instruments known to man which is still in use. It is mentioned 69 times in the Bible. It was a beautiful wedding, with bits of fun, prayers, a Davidic Dance to a beautiful song "Fine Linen", violin played by Vonnie's 17-year-old daughter Abby, wine drinking between the bride and groom, the marriage vows and the traditional breaking of the glass. Vonnie's wedding dress was beautiful, and her colors - light sage and brown were breathtaking! We stayed for a bit of the reception, but left before the dance was fully underway. Ronnie Choy, who also works at the Eagle, was the DJ. Ronnie is a great DJ, and also did the receptions for Mike & Diana, my brother and sister-in-law, and Lenore and Daniel, my niece and "nephew-in-law" - is that a term? Anyway, it was quite the experience and a beautiful ceremony. I took my camera, but apparently was in awe of my surroundings, because I only took one picture. This is of a friend and co-worker, Trish, and her 5-year old son, Shaun, who entertained our whole table! Trish is also a hair stylist and she did all the wedding parties hair, so she was pretty tired!

My car is at the transmission shop being repaired. They determined it was the magnetic speed sensor, so of course it involves pulling the transmission. It's a good thing Corby had a lot of overtime the last 2 weeks, because it's going to cost us a good sum of money. We can't afford a new car right now with 3 kids in college, and we decided we would try to keep my car running another year or two. Hopefully I will get it back on Tuesday. I am off work Monday and Tuesday, so at least Corby doesn't have to worry about taking me to work. Our schedules are just a bit different, so it means I have to go in early, and then he has to wait for me when he gets off. It's workable, but not something we want to do long term!

Kaitlin is coming home on Friday for a 3 days weekend! It will be so good to have her home! Brandon hasn't been home since they moved up the first of August, but we've seen him several times when we've made trips to Manhattan. Kaleb has been home a couple of times and so has Kaitlin. Of course, Brandon is a junior, so he's used to being on his own. I'm sure Kaleb will stay at K-State, but Kaitlin is pretty sure she's going to come home in May and go to WSU next year. It will be good to have her home if that's what she decides! I know her cats and dog will be happy to see her next weekend, AND happy if she comes back home! (ME TOO!)

Fun times with Lenore

While Lenore and Daniel were here, she had a library book panel at the Johnson County Library in Overland Park. So, on Tuesday afternoon, November 27th, Lenore, her friend Rachelle and I took off for KC. We had a great time visiting on the way up and back, and I didn't get tired at all driving! We stopped for a quick bite to eat at Arby's and filled up with gas at QT before heading to the library. It was an interesting panel featuring Bethany Hagen, author of Landry Park, which comes out next year; Gennifer Albin, author of Crewel, which was released a few months ago; and Lenore, whose book will be released on January 15. Here's the panel: Me & Lenore: Lenore & Rachelle: Gennifer, Bethany and Lenore

K-STATE WINS!

K-STATE beat KU! AWESOME! It was a tense game. Corby is a huge KU fan, and even having a son at K-State hasn't changed that. I am happy when any Kansas team does well; but I had to root for K-State tonight. If the Jayhawks had to lose, I'm glad it was to K-State. Michael Beasley is a great player, and my only concern is that he will leave after his freshman year and go pro. WAY TO GO CATS!
