KC and more

We had a fun KC trip this past weekend, except for the RAIN! It rained all the way to KC on Saturday, and was still raining when we got there. We did some shopping at Oak Park Mall. Along with Brandon, Kaleb & Kaitlin, their roommate Dom and Kaitlin's best friend Lydia went with us. We ate lunch with Lydia's aunt and uncle and then headed downtown. The rain finally stopped, so we dropped the boys off at Rockfest around 3:00, and then checked in to the Westin. The rain started up again, and Kaleb finally gave up on the concert around 7pm. He was so muddy, he had to hose himself down with a hose that the Westin hooked up for concert goers.

And Kaleb being Kaleb, he forgot to bring a change of clothes. This is what happens when mom doesn't take care of everything I guess. Anyway, we had to make a mad dash to Walmart and buy him a t-shirt, shorts, flip flops and underwear. We grabbed a quick bite at Taco Bell before heading back to the hotel. Brandon and Dom got back around 10pm - and yes - they had to hose themselves off too. Dom threw his shoes away - we're trying to salvage the boys' shoes. They took hot showers, and then at midnight we went down to the bar. Brandon bought his first "legal" beer - they didn't even card him! We were all tired, so we crashed!

Some pics from our hotel room:

Sunday it was misty and cloudy. We went across the street and got some Panera bagels for breakfast, and then dropped Dom off at the Greyhound bus station. He was going home to Minnesota for a week before heading back to Manhattan. Our original plan was to have Corby meet us in Manhattan with Kaitlin's truck and load up the rest of her stuff. But because of the weather we decided to wait until this coming weekend when Corby and Kaitlin will head back up and get her things. We got back to Wichita around 5, and Corby fixed homemade pizza for Brandon's birthday dinner. It was his request, even though as college students I'm sure they eat enough pizza!

All in all, even with the weather, we had a great time! I felt bad for Kaitlin and Lydia, because they had to say goodbye. We've invited Lydia to come stay with us any time she wants to this summer. She the first "best" friend that Kaitlin has had, and I know they will stay close even though there will be distance between them. They've already been calling each other and texting constantly!

Last night we took Brandon out to Abuelo's for his birthday. He got a beer, but I can't remember the name of it. I'd never heard of it before.

Here are some pics:

Cinnamon got her fur shaved on Saturday. Corby took her to Petsmart while we were gone. She refused to go outside the rest of Saturday and that night, and finally went out on Sunday. I don't know if she was embarrassed or just plum tuckered out from her haircut. It takes them almost 4 hours to shave her!

The kids are at lunch right now with their friend Brady. Kaleb will head back to Manhattan this afternoon, and Brandon will head home tomorrow. He went and got his new driver's license this morning.

I've really enjoyed having everyone home for a few days! Kaleb will be home again next week for a dentist appointment, but he'll only be home for a day and a half.

Kaitlin went to WSU this morning and met with her advisor. She got her classes scheduled for the fall. I'm SO glad to have my baby girl home!

It's back to work tomorrow for me. It was nice to take a few days of vacation while the kids were here!

Fun times with Lenore

While Lenore and Daniel were here, she had a library book panel at the Johnson County Library in Overland Park. So, on Tuesday afternoon, November 27th, Lenore, her friend Rachelle and I took off for KC. We had a great time visiting on the way up and back, and I didn't get tired at all driving! We stopped for a quick bite to eat at Arby's and filled up with gas at QT before heading to the library. It was an interesting panel featuring Bethany Hagen, author of Landry Park, which comes out next year; Gennifer Albin, author of Crewel, which was released a few months ago; and Lenore, whose book will be released on January 15. Here's the panel: Me & Lenore: Lenore & Rachelle: Gennifer, Bethany and Lenore

K-STATE WINS!

K-STATE beat KU! AWESOME! It was a tense game. Corby is a huge KU fan, and even having a son at K-State hasn't changed that. I am happy when any Kansas team does well; but I had to root for K-State tonight. If the Jayhawks had to lose, I'm glad it was to K-State. Michael Beasley is a great player, and my only concern is that he will leave after his freshman year and go pro. WAY TO GO CATS!
